スウェーデンで最も有名なイベントはノーベル賞でしょう。授賞式と晩餐会はアルフレッド・ノーベルの亡くなった12月10日に開催され、授賞式はコンサートホールで、晩餐会は市庁舎で行われます。ノーベル賞はスウェーデンでも一大イベントで、受賞式や晩餐会の様子がテレビで実況中継されます。ノーベルディナーのメニューをはじめ、イベントやデコレーションは当日まで内密にされています。特に王室や参列者のドレスが注目されます。ディナーメニューもひとつひとつていねいに紹介されますが、脇役でもあるフラワーアレンジもステキです。当日までテーマは秘密です。2007年のテーマは「お菓子」で、スウェーデンでは定番のマジパンで作られたケーキ、プリンセストータ等をお花で表現していました。

2000年からノーベル賞バンケットのフラワーアレンジを担当しているのは、イラストレーターでもあるグンナル・カイです。スウェーデンのフラワーアレンジはいまひとつと思っていましたが、彼の作品はさすがに一味違います。インテリアフェアFormexの会場でひときわ変わったアレンジを手がけたり、イベントには引っ張りだこの人気アーティストです。彼が2000年から手がけたアレンジを一挙にご紹介します。
